- The history of the temple in honor of the chief apostles Peter and Paul is surprising in that it was built in 1946 at the request of the believers of the parish of the Intercession Church, despite the persecution of the Church and the difficult post-war period in the history of the country. The city authorities initially authorized the construction of a small wooden chapel at the Peter and Paul cemetery for the burial of the dead. In connection with a sharp shortage of existing Orthodox churches in Tambov in the Peter and Paul Chapel, the clergy of the Intercession Cathedral in Tambov, in addition to funeral services, performed the Sacraments of Baptism, Weddings and other services. Until the end of the 80s of the last century, the church at the Peter and Paul Cemetery was repeatedly oppressed by the Soviet authorities. Several times the question of its closure or demolition was raised. Although the Peter and Paul Cathedral does not have the architectural splendor inherent in the traditions of Orthodox church building, for many years it has remained a spiritual center for numerous parishioners. The interior of the church amazes with a multitude of icons with particles of the relics of the saints of God. There is a Sunday school at the church.
