Historia:
Historical information about the village of Stepanovo and the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Stepanovo was first mentioned in a census conducted in 1646 by the Kazan governor Timofei Buturlin. In the "Book of the Letter and the Watch of Timofei Fedorovich Buturlin and the driver Oleksey Griboyedov in 154", among other monastic villages that are part of the patrimony of the Osinsky Preobrazhensky Monastery, the village of Stepanova is also noted. In total, there were four courtyards in the village, one monastery, in which Elder Khariton lived with the worker Gavrilk Ilyin and his sons, and three peasant households. This is how a typical settlement of monastic peasants looked at that time. Initially, a monk and a worker settled on the lands granted or donated to the monastery to develop these lands, and soon other peasants who arrived, sometimes from completely different places, settled there too. in search of land and spiritual salvation. Later Stepanovo developed as a settlement of monastic peasants. It got its name, probably, after the name of the first elder (monk) Stephen, who settled here even before the elder Khariton. In the period from 1646 to 1708. in Stepanovo, a church was built, consecrated in the name of St. Procopius Christ for the sake of the Holy Fool Ustyug Wonderworker. Later the temple was rebuilt and consecrated in the name of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the chapel in the name of St. Procopius Christ for the sake of the Holy Fool Ustyug Wonderworker. Since that time, the village was called Bogorodskoye Stepanovo identity. During this period, the village grew, besides, in addition to it, several villages and repairs were formed in the vicinity, which became part of the parish of the Mother of God. These are villages and repairs: Gamy, Zabegaevo, Babka, Svinkin, Kichizhikha. As the old wooden temple decayed, in 1893, by the diligence of the parishioners, a new wooden temple was built, the arrival of which by that time had increased due to the newly formed villages. According to the 1795 census, it included: Gama, Sokolovo, Levino, Eremino, Kokushkino, Tsypushkino, Babka, Kichigino, Gary, Gorshkovo. By 1889, the church fell into disrepair again. Whether it was subsequently rebuilt is unknown to us. The parish of the Mother of God Church in the village of Stepanovo was part of the Perm diocese and territorially part of the Okhansk district of the Perm province. In Soviet times, in 1929, under the pretext of dilapidation, the temple was closed by the Sarapul District Executive Committee. From that time on, the services ceased. Unfortunately, today we do not know anything about the fate of the priests of this temple, most likely they shared the fate of a huge number of ministers who suffered for our Lord Jesus Christ. This building, according to the testimony of old residents, stood for a long time until the whole village was flooded in the 1960s.
