The Kazan Monastery of Tambov was founded in the second half of the 17th century. Currently, the complex of buildings of the Kazan Monastery includes: 3 churches, 2 chapels, the Tambov Theological Seminary, an administrative building, and outbuildings. The winter stone church, built in 1821, was consecrated in honor of the Holy Prophet Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John. In this temple, services are performed throughout the year, since it is heated. The summer stone church, built in 1796, was consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. Seminar house church in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Consecrated in 2005 by Bishop Theodosius. One chapel was built with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II on his first visit to the Tambov region in 1993 and is located on the site of the monastery necropolis between the churches, in memory of all those buried in the monastery territory. The second chapel was built with the blessing of Bishop Theodosius in 2003 over the grave of Archbishop Eugene (Zhdan). The Kazan Monastery was founded on the outskirts of Tambov by Hieromonk Joseph. “To the Tsar and Sovereign and Grand Duke Alexy Mikhailovich of all great and small and white Russia to the autocrat, your beggar, your pilgrim Tanbova of the city of the new desert, Elder Joseph, beats with his forehead” - this is how the pleading petition began, leaving scanty evidence of the beginning of the Kazan monastery. The first mention of it dates back to 1677. Since 1758, the monastery has become the seat of the Tambov bishops. The monastery was rebuilt several times. A stone one-altar church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, built in 1796 by Bishop Theophilus (Raev). The closure of the monastery took place in October 1918. In total, by 1917, 11 hieromonks, 5 hierodeacons, 10 monks and 20 novices lived in the Kazan monastery. Like other monasteries in the diocese, the official decision to close the monastery was made in 1918 in accordance with a general decree. In 1920, the entire monastery complex was transferred to the Gubernia Cheka. Evidence of the short-term ownership of the Cheka monastery was the destruction in 1923 of the monastery cemetery, where many famous people of Tambov were buried (Voeikovs, Vysheslavtsevs, Naryshkins, Bibikovs, Chicherins, the famous doctor E. Information about one of them, Hieromonk Seraphim (Gagarin), has been preserved in the Tambov Regional Archive. Until 1917 he carried out obedience on the Farm of Three Hollows. When the farm was taken away by the authorities in 1917, Fr. Seraphim returned to the monastery. But he did not live here for long, the monastery was closed in 1918. Father Seraphim began to serve in the Cathedral. Leaving the monastery, he took with him the most precious thing for a believer: the cross and the Gospel, which belonged to him personally. During the confiscation of church valuables in 1922, Hieromonk Seraphim did not give the cross and the gospel to the enemies of the church, and for this he was accused of theft, and in 1923 he was brought to trial. As a true monk, he did not make excuses and admitted the guilt that was being placed on him. After 1945, they housed a part of the state archive and a training and production plant. As a result, there was a significant loss of wall painting, the iconostasis was completely lost, an interfloor reinforced concrete ceiling was erected, a concrete staircase was arranged, there was no heating, the premises were heated by "stoves". On August 16, 1991, the Kazan temple was returned to the believers, and in 2007 the temple was completely restored. A project for the restoration of the Kazan temple was developed, in accordance with which work was carried out to restore the external architectural and artistic appearance and interior decoration of the temple. Despite the high complexity and short terms, the planned restoration work was carried out with high quality and in full by the joint efforts of professional restorers. The reinforced concrete floor with flights of stairs was dismantled, partitions were removed, the walls were cleaned of soot and soot, window openings were opened. Extensive restoration work has been carried out.115 Since the church was not heated, there was a threat of losing the unique interior painting. The connection of the temple to the city heating networks and the execution of work on the laying of an external heating main to the temple ensured the observance of a certain temperature and humidity regime necessary to preserve the painting. The painting of the Kazan temple is unique, made in the technique of frescoes on lime-sand plaster. In its style and applied painting techniques, it is characteristic of the end of the 18th ce
