- The St. Seraphim of Sarov Church in Makalangot, North Cotabato, is historically significant as the first fully consecrated Russian Orthodox church in the Philippines. On February 22, 2020, Metropolitan Pavel of Manila and Hanoi performed the great consecration rite, officially inaugurating the church under the Philippine‑Vietnamese Diocese. The congregation originally converted from the Aglipayan church in 2015, led by Fr. Moses Cahilig, who later became a priest in the diocese. Philippines and Vietnam Diocese The initial worship space was rudimentary (a bamboo structure without walls), but by 2017 construction began in earnest. A prominent “onion” dome was only installed in 2023, with clergy and the faithful gathering in prayer for its blessing. Philippine Mission The mission now serves as a deanery center for Mindanao, with Kinabalu recognized as a mission point under the same parish cluster.
