- According to local tradition, the church known as “Mămăroilor” was built in gratitude by Mămară, a hatman (military commander) serving under Mircea the Elder, after surviving the Battle of Rovine (1394). This gives the church a legendary origin tracing back to the late 14th or early 15th century. By the 18th century, the parish of Mămăroi (part of Brădiceni) included three churches: 1. The legendary Mămăroi church. 2. A secondary wooden church known as “Triafetita” with dedication to Saints Gregory, Basil, and John. 3. A more substantial stone-and-brick church constructed between 1832 by local nobles and churchmen such as Șerban Manolescu, Badea Popescu, and Ionita Brădiceanu The original Mămăroi church is a modest wooden structure rooted in local legend. Over time, it became part of a consolidated parish with the stone church built in the early 19th century, reflecting shifting community resources and architectural trends. Located near the cultural center of the Brădiceni parish, the Mămăroi church holds both spiritual and historical value for the community. Though smaller than the later stone church, its legendary founding connects it deeply with local identity and the medieval heritage of the area.
