- The Mother of God Iveron Icon Parish in Manila traces its origins to the early Russian Orthodox presence in the Philippines. The first Russian émigrés arrived in Manila in the 1920s, forming a small but devout Orthodox community. By the mid-1930s, they established a parish dedicated to the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, which served as their spiritual center until it was destroyed during the Battle of Manila in 1945. For many decades after the war, there was no formal Russian Orthodox parish in Manila, though individual Orthodox Christians remained scattered throughout the city. A revival began in the 2010s, when the Russian Orthodox Church restored its pastoral mission in the Philippines. Clergy were assigned to Manila, new communities were organized, and the historical Iveron dedication was restored. Today, the Iveron Icon Parish functions under the Philippine-Vietnamese Diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate. It serves both expatriates and local faithful, celebrating the Divine Liturgy, providing catechesis, and continuing the legacy of the first Orthodox community founded nearly a century ago.
