- The Cathedral of Elijah the Prophet is a brick building that has a two-tower front with a dome on top. It was constructed in the late 20th century. Following its ordination, it was named the new cathedral of Aleppo's Greek Orthodox diocese. Bishop Ephraim Maalouli was named the new archbishop at the end of 2021.
The Greek Orthodox Church of Elijah the Prophet was harmed by the catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake that devastated the Kahramanmaras region on February 6, 2023. A part of the external walls collapsed, causing damage to the cathedral's courtyard. Sections of the roof fell, destroying the exquisite decorations inside.
