History:
The first mentions of “the village of Lipovitsa on the Blizhnyaya Lipovitsa river” date back to 1745. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. with. Bolshaya Lipovitsa looked more like a small town. In 1917, it was home to about 5 thousand people. There were 3 brick factories, a fair, an elementary school, a school and a hospital in the village. This village is known to many Orthodox people as the birthplace of an outstanding Russian saint - the Monk Ambrose of Optina. The great Optina elder, hieroschemamonk Ambrose (in the world Alexander Mikhailovich Grenkov) was born on November 23, 1812 in the family of the sexton Mikhail Fedorovich. Before the birth of the child, a lot of guests came to the priest's grandfather, so the woman in labor, Martha Nikolaevna, had to be transferred to the bathhouse, where she gave birth to a son, named in holy baptism in honor of the faithful Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky. Later, Elder Ambrose joked: "As in people I was born, so everything is in people and I live." As a child, Alexander was a very lively, cheerful and intelligent boy. According to the custom of that time, he learned to read from the Slavic primer, the Book of Hours and the Psalter. Every holiday he sang and read with his father in the kliros in the local church. Sasha never saw or heard anything bad, as he was brought up in a strictly church and religious environment.300px-Amvrosiy He studied brilliantly. First at the Tambov Theological School, then at the Tambov Theological Seminary. A year before graduation, he fell seriously ill. There was almost no hope for a cure, and he vowed to go to a monastery if he recovered. But, having received healing, he postponed the fulfillment of the vow for a long time. He taught at the Lipetsk Theological School. And only four years later, with the blessing of Elder Illarion of Troekurovsky, he left for Optina Pustyn, where he carried the great feat of eldership. In the XIX - early XX century. Svyato-Vvedenskaya Optina Hermitage became the spiritual center of Russia. For the advice of the elders, not only ordinary people came here, but also the flower of the Russian intelligentsia of that time. One of the great representatives of the Cathedral of the Optina Elders, the Monk Ambrose became the prototype of Elder Zosima in the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov". Unfortunately, time did not preserve the magnificent stone three-altar church in honor of the Holy Trinity in the homeland of the great saint of God, founded in 1883. According to the old residents of the village, this church was famous not only for its external beauty, but also for its interior decoration and splendor, the walls of the temple were decorated with a large the number of beautiful icons, the windows had multi-colored stained-glass windows. The holy elder Ambrose taught: “Why is a person bad? Because he forgets that God is above him. " Many compatriots of the holy elder forgot about this simple truth, in the Soviet years they plundered and destroyed the church in Bolshaya Lipovitsa. In 2006, s. Bolshaya Lipovitsa, a small church in honor of the Monk Ambrose (commemorated October 23) was consecrated, which was housed in a converted building of a former rural store. On the site of the Trinity Church destroyed in Soviet times, the construction of a new church in honor of the Venerable Optina Elder has been completed. The temple, 41 meters high, is visible from every point of Bolshaya Lipovitsa.
